Who We Are

Bill

(The Theorist): Once taught highly mathematical subjects at a major university, but assures us he has forgotten all that and is now focused solely on playing the wrong chord at exactly the right moment. He spends most of his time proving mathematically that this band cannot possibly sound as good as it does, though these theorems are rarely cited. The biggest difference between grading papers and playing in 5¢ Miracle? The papers never talked back.

Sarah

(The Data): As a highly organized Research Administrator, Sarah is accustomed to dealing with large, complex datasets and budgets. This makes her uniquely qualified to catalog the band’s $5-per-gig earnings and compile the official “Mistake Count” spreadsheet after every performance. She is currently running a nonlinear regression analysis to determine the precise correlation between capo use and audience attention.

The Five Cent Miracle Story

5¢ Miracle began with a slightly uncomfortable conversation over lukewarm coffee and a shared inability to find a decent parking spot. Sarah (vocals, guitar, lyricist, and responsible adult) and Bill (vocals, guitar, purveyor of questionable chord changes, and designated emotional support human) quickly discovered a mutual appreciation for crafting songs about the minor indignities of modern life, the occasional existential crisis, and the profound wisdom of self-deprecating humor.

Our Origin (Probably): Sarah, a connoisseur of confusion and surprisingly catchy melodies, found a willing accomplice in Bill, whose primary talent lies in enthusiastically forgetting song lyrics. Together, they decided that the world desperately needed more folk-rock anthems about relationship miscommunications, the struggle against internal demons, and the importance of knowing your legal rights when confronted by ICEmen.

Our Philosophy (Such as it is): Our philosophy is that art should feel like people. We make music because it’s one of the few places where confusion, emotion, and intention can coexist. By leaning into the wobble, we remain committed to being “cheap, cheerful, and mostly in tune.” While our recordings may sometimes resemble an exercise in enthusiastic chaos, we hope that our lyrics make you feel slightly better about your own life choices. Especially when comparing them with ours.

Things we agree on:

  • Harmony is optional, but feelings are not
  • If we’re both confused, we’re probably on to something
  • The universe is mostly chaos, so our songs might as well be honest about it

Things we disagree on:

  • How many chords a song really needs
  • If a metronome is a helpful tool or a personal attack
  • Whether our band name is a joke, a philosophy, or a cry for help

How we work together: One of us suggests an idea. The other misunderstands it. After a few successive rounds of misinterpretations, a song appears!
